Construction Marking Criteria

Standard

Level 1 (0–23 marks)  

The work for the main task is incomplete. There is minimal evidence in the work of the creative use of any relevant technical skills such as:

  • Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task;
  • showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design;
  • showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size;
  • accurately using language and register;
  • using ICT appropriately for the task set;
  • appropriately integrating illustration and text;
  • shooting  a variety of material appropriate to the task set;
  • manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing.

Level 2 (24-35)

The work for the main task is possibly incomplete. There is basic evidence in the work of the creative use of any relevant technical skills such as:

  • Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task;
  • showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design;
  • showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size;
  • accurately using language and register;
  • using ICT appropriately for the task set;
  • appropriately integrating illustration and text;
  • shooting  a variety of material appropriate to the task set;
  • manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing.

 

Level 3 (36-47)

There is proficient evidence in the work of the creative use of any relevant technical skills such as:

  • Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task;
  • showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design;
  • showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size;
  • accurately using language and register;
  • using ICT appropriately for the task set;
  • appropriately integrating illustration and text;
  • shooting  a variety of material appropriate to the task set;
  • manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing.

 

Level 4 (48-60) 

There is excellent evidence in the work of the creative use of any relevant technical skills such as:

  • Producing material appropriate for the target audience and task;
  • showing understanding of conventions of layout and page design;
  • showing awareness of the need for variety in fonts and text size;
  • accurately using language and register;
  • using ICT appropriately for the task set;
  • appropriately integrating illustration and text;
  • shooting  a variety of material appropriate to the task set;
  • manipulating photographs as appropriate to the context for presentation, including cropping and resizing.

 

Task 2: Final Front Cover, Contents Page and Double Page Spread

Standard

Task:

You will need to post your final products on your blog in order for them to be seen by the examiner. These can either be in 1 post, or in 3 separate ones depending on your personal preference.

Each of your final designs should be accompanied by a brief explanation illustrating why these are the final pieces, why you think they are suitable for your genre and why they suit your target audience.

Task 1: Front Cover, Contents Page and Double Page Spread Development

Standard

Task:

This is a really important part of your coursework, and a part that many students overlook. In order to achieve top marks for your coursework you must show the ability to develop ideas, creating drafts and reworking particular elements of your coursework to ensure it suits the target audience and genre.

All of you will be doing this work anyway, your first design is never the final piece, but you need to make sure you are keeping copies of your work as it develops. Once you have a first draft, even if you’re not 100% happy with it, save it as a JPEG and assess what you need to do next. You can post this analysis on your blog as part of the development process. This can then be expanded further with the 2nd and 3rd drafts etc…
